Audemars Piguet was founded in 1875 by Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet in the Vallee de Joux, Switzerland. Audemars specialized in making complex movements and Piguet in the regulation of watch movements. Once they combined forces they split their duties, leaving Audemars in charge of production and Piguet in charge of sales and marketing. One of the duo’s most notable early achievements was their creation of the first minute repeater wristwatch in 1892.
Audemars is best known for its Royal Oak model which was first introduced in 1972. It was the company’s first high-end sports watch and ultimately revolutionized the brand.
